commencing on 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. We are offering a fixed-term, part time (65%) position for three years that is tied to working toward a doctoral degree in Physical Chemistry/ Theoretical Chemistry/Theoretical Physics. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.
Your tasks:- Carry out an independent doctoral research project on molecular simulations of asymmetric biological membranes and lipid-mediated membrane organization.
- Perform coarse-grained and all-atom molecular dynamics simulations of complex membrane systems containing membrane proteins.
- Investigate mechanisms underlying gel-domain formation, sterol asymmetry, membrane curvature, and protein clustering.
- Apply free-energy-based approaches to characterize membrane thermodynamics and lipid protein interactions.
- Collaborate with experimental partners within the CRC and disseminate scientific results through publications and presentations at international conferences.
- A master’s degree, or equivalent, in chemistry, physics, biophysics, computational materials science, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience with scientific programming and data analysis, ideally including molecular simulations.
- Background or strong interest in membrane biophysics, soft matter, or physical chemistry.
- An independent, structured, and analytical working style combined with openness to interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Very good written and spoken English.
